PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Marine Instructor (MI) supports the mission of Granbury ISD and United States Marine Corps by delivering a high-quality JROTC program that fosters leadership, citizenship, discipline and academic success. The MI is responsible for teaching the Marine Corps Leadership Education curriculum, mentoring cadets, promoting physical fitness and leading extracurricular teams. The MI ensures compliance with all Marine Corp, state and district policies and regulations and works under the direct supervision of the Senior Marine Instructor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
• Must be certified as a Marine Corps JROTC Instructor through TECOM
• Category I – Senior enlisted Marines with 18 years of active duty service
? Category II - Reserve: Senior enlisted Marines who have completed 20 years of honorable service are eligible to apply to become JROTC instructors
? Category III - Marines in pay grade E5 (Sergeants) and above who have separated with 8 plus years of active service and who have no more than 5 years since separation for active duty.
? Category IV - Active Reserve Marines in pay grade E5 (Sergeants) and above.
? Prospective instructors must have a favorable recommendation from their last reporting senior and a career record demonstrating sound judgment, character, and honorable service.
? A Marine Instructor (MI) must also possess an Associate Degree or obtain one within five years of being hired, have a competitive military record, and be physically qualified according to MCJROTC standards.
? Experience working with high school-aged students preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
? Strong leadership, instructional, and communication skills
? Understanding of secondary education and classroom management
• Ability to foster a structured, disciplined learning environment
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instruction:
? Teach the Marine Corps JROTC curriculum (Leadership, Citizenship, Physical Fitness, and Drill & Ceremonies) for assigned grade levels (9–12)
? Provide instruction in character development and leadership education
? Support cadet academic, physical, and leadership growth
? Collaborate with the SMI and administrative supervisors to plan lessons and manage instructional resources
Program Leadership:
? Promote the MCJROTC mission: “To motivate young people to be better citizens”
? Organize, coach, and supervise JROTC extracurricular teams (Drill, Marksmanship, Raiders, PT, Academic Bowl, Cyber Patriot, Color Guard, Robotics, Orienteering, etc.)
? Lead or assist in field trips, community service projects, and civic events.
? Encourage cadet participation in school functions and leadership opportunities.
Compliance & Administration:
? Maintain cadet records, unit inventories, and program reports in accordance with Marine Corps and district requirements.
? Assist with issuing, maintaining, and accounting for uniforms, equipment, and supplies
? Support logistical planning for training events, summer camps, and competitions.
Campus & Community Engagement:
? Uphold district expectations for professionalism, conduct, and student support
? Actively participate in school functions and community events to promote JROTC
? Serve as a mentor and positive role model for cadets and students across the campus
Professionalism & Growth:
? Participate in required Marine Corps and school district professional development
? Maintain all TECOM and TEA certification and readiness requirements
? Foster a collaborative, respectful and mission-driven team culture within the JROTC staff
