PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance to school assigned, including counseling services. Provide a proactive, development guidance program to encourage all students to maximize growth and development.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling; Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Exhibit positive interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and community members.
- Demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, campus, and department goals.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications for work processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communications (i.e. email, written, and verbal)
EXPERIENCE: Three years related mental health counseling experience as well as crisis and case management experience, preferably with school-aged children. Must have some experience dealing with mental health issues. Needs to have a familiarity with forming partnerships with outside organizations and university programs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Provide individual and group support services for students involved, or who are at risk to be involved, with substance abuse, violent behavior, or who are in emotional crisis.
- Serve as a suicide liaison for the campus.
- Counsel with students who have returned from treatment or an alternative school placement.
- Provide assessment and interventions for students and families in these and other crisis related situations: A.Suicidal/Violent Behavior Risk and/or Threat
B.Suspected or Verified Substance Abuse - Assess student/family need for community resources and provide appropriate information.
- Provide crisis intervention counseling in the event of a campus affected crisis or crisis within the district.
- Facilitate parent education and awareness of trends affecting student mental health.
- Collaborate with school counselors, social workers, campus administrators and other support professionals to identify campus needs.
- Coordinate and conduct training programs for parents, faculty, students or community.
- Plan, guide and provide training to faculty, staff and district personnel on at-risk behaviors that may trigger threatening, violent or serious psychological responses.
- Create, implement and train Behavioral Assessment Teams on threat management steps, protocols, and responses.
- Serve as a member of campus Behavioral Assessment Teams.
- Develop protocols to assist campus staff on identifying at-risk and potentially harmful student behaviors.
- Work collaboratively with all campus assessment teams to ensure follow-up support.
- Comply with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
- Others duties as assigned.
