Position Summary:
Banquet captains are responsible for supervising the staff, operations, and guests of banquet experiences at restaurants, hotels, or private functions. Their duties include planning dining events, managing the food and beverage service, and tending to guests' requests and complaints. This position will receive a portion of the event gratuities.
Job Duties:
- Welcoming guests upon their arrival and assisting them with their seating arrangements.
- Assisting managers and organizers with planning the layout and logistics of events.
- Setting up and managing staff shifts and timetables.
- Developing and providing staff with the necessary training, including customer service and serving etiquette.
- Managing the setup of events.
- Running the floor and coordinating the food and drink service by liaising with the kitchen and service staff.
- Monitoring the inventory of supplies, equipment, and furniture.
- Tending to guests' requests, questions, and complaints.
- Ensuring that the venue and facilities remain neat and clean.
- Ensuring that all applicable safety regulations are communicated and adhered to.
- Assist with the complete setup and breakdown of the banquet area.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and awareness of sanitary practices.
- Anticipate guests’ needs and exceed customer service expectations.
- Maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
- Relay important information about orders, allergies and special requests to the appropriate person.
- Respond urgently and appropriately to any concerns.
- Present in professional appearance and mannerisms.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment.
- Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures of the property.

Formal Education and Job-Related Experience:
- 1 year of previous banquet captain experience
- High School diploma or equivalent

Physical Environment: Indoor, kitchen environment. May be occasionally subject to hot temperatures approaching 100° F for short periods of time, or cold temperatures below 0° F for short periods of time, while wearing protective equipment.
Work Schedule: Varies by position.
Occupational Risks: There are inherent risks associated with the restaurant industry and may be required to take a safety training seminar.
Ergonomics Risks: The position has ergonomic risks that must understood i.e., cutting, lifting, carrying, etc.
Safety: Responsible for adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
