Overview
The Parks Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating and participating in the maintenance and repair of the parks and related facilities, equipment, and grounds. The Parks Superintendent is also responsible for coordinating, assigning, and reviewing work and establishing work schedules, maintaining standards, monitoring status of work in progress, inspecting completed work assignments, answering questions, and giving advice and administering discipline as needed.
Supervision Received
Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Park Operations or his or her designee
Supervision Exercised
Will coordinate and direct full-time and part-time/seasonal park maintenance and senior center maintenance staff. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance reviews.
Duties
- Plans, organizes, assigns, directs, and reviews the work of full-time and seasonal staff. Assists in the selection of personnel; evaluates work and recommends discipline as required.
- Lays out daily work schedules and assigns tasks to appropriate individuals, crews or combination of crews, and coordinates the completion of the same.
- Prepares plans and estimates work time, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment as
needed; plans, implements, and directs preventative maintenance programs. - Develops, recommends, and implements day-to-day operating policies and procedures.
- Initiates and reviews payroll documentation for both full, part-time, and seasonal park employees.
- Performs periodic inspections of buildings, parks, ball fields, trails, playgrounds, and all
other recreational facilities to determine the nature and extent of maintenance and repairs
needed. Inspect completed work for quality and completeness. - Manages the use and operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles; ensures that tools,
equipment; and vehicles are safely operated, maintained, and secured when not in use;
schedules service, repairs, and replacement of tools and equipment. - Provides for safety training of all vehicles and equipment for staff.
- Oversees and coordinates athletic field maintenance and preparation. Coordinates usage
and maintenance schedules of athletic fields and facilities. - Supervise field crew for tournament play, league play, and regular maintenance.
- Head Grounds person for all tournament or recreational play at Township athletic fields.
- Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs and community events and prepares facilities at the park for the same.
- Prepares and maintains daily, monthly and annual reports and records, as assigned.
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all GBT non-motorized pathways.
- Assist in the coordination of the Township Beautification efforts.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software and standard equipment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Park Management, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
- 5 years or more of experience in parks maintenance or groundskeeping, including
- supervisory experience preferred.
- Prior experience leading a team, particularly in a maintenance or facilities management setting, is highly preferred.
- Understanding that weekend work with tournaments and league play will be required.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and leadership, including work
- planning, assignment review, scheduling, evaluations, discipline, and training.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work a varying schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- AED/CPR Certified
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical that includes drug testing and a background check
- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s license.
- A Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator License 3A and 6, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; the employee must regularly stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and up to 150 pounds using team lift.
Work Environment:
The employee is frequently working near moving mechanical parts; the employee is subject to outdoor weather conditions (humidity, high heat, cold, rain etc...)
Salary : $67,000 - $72,000
