The Energy Management & Controls Technician maintains and optimizes Building Management Systems controls, focusing on programming, diagnostics, commissioning, installation, repair and retro-commissioning to improve energy efficiency, air quality, lighting and comfort.
What you will do :
- Perform maintenance and repair on commercial Building Management Systems BMS.
- Repair or replace BMS system controllers and components as needed.
- Troubleshoot and perform repairs on existing electronic and electrical control systems.
- Program BMS databases and sequences of operation to optimize building equipment operation, energy utilization, indoor air quality, and comfort.
- Ensure system program coding / scripts are fully functional and adequate for HVAC systems and other equipment controls.
- Test and approve program changes, computers, and components associated with energy management or automated control systems.
- Perform commissioning and system diagnostics from system-level controllers to end devices (e.g., sensors, actuators).
- Conduct retro-commissioning of building systems to identify and address inefficiencies or faults.
- Develop and refine predictive maintenance programs.
- Works closely with the University Energy Manager on current and long-range energy management initiatives.
- Identify and recommend equipment upgrades or replacements to enhance energy efficiency and comfort controls.
- Assist MEP technicians in addressing comfort, energy, indoor air quality, and scheduling concerns related to MEP systems and controls.
- Notify relevant personnel when alarms occur, or corrective action is needed.
- Coordinate inspections, preventive maintenance, and testing schedules.
- Review and analyze alarms from the energy management system for proper action.
- Report trends and concerns about energy management performance to senior facilities management.
- Other duties as assigned.
