Job Summary

The Assistant Controller oversees the financial activities of the Grand Canyon South Rim property.

The Details

Position Type: Full-time, Year-round

Pay: $75,000 per year

Housing: Eligible for a 3 bedroom house

Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of employee selection and performance for the South Rim accounting department: Hiring, Training, Performance Evaluation, Coaching, Corrective Action Process and Promotions, in coordination with the Grand Canyon South Rim Location Controller.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in all accounting operations/functions through effective leadership and performance management of assigned functions: Sales and Cash Auditor, Accounting Lead – special projects, Mailroom Clerk, Food and Beverage Auditor, and Cash Operations staff.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of daily revenue/stats to Grand Canyon South Rim management.
  • Complete all assigned journal entries timely and accurately.
  • Control and monitor the NPS concession fees and maintenance reserve. Ensure timely and accurate funding and account reporting to NPS as required by contract.
  • Ensure the completion of the Grand Canyon South Rim’s monthly sales/use tax reports and submit to corporate timely and accurately.
  • Research credit card issues from all operating locations as needed.
  • Participate in the annual financial plan for the Xanterra South Rim properties as requested.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations for all assigned balance sheet accounts timely and accurately. Review all reconciliations assigned to other team members and ensure that they are completed timely and accurate.
  • Continuous review of accounting processes to ensure efficient and effective utilization of personnel. Responsible for continual streamlining of accounting processes. Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets to facilitate in the streamlining of accounting and audit procedures with the ability to track data more efficiently.
  • Ensure that all areas are maintaining, updating, and revising desk policy and procedure manuals as needed.
  • Participate in the annual retail inventories as needed.
  • Work closely with the GCSR Location Controller, communicating matters requiring his/her input or approval.
  • Work with the Flagstaff Regional Accounting Office as needed and/or required. Ensure all paperwork and needed support is provided timely and accurately.
  • Provide support as needed to internal and external customers, in a willing and professional manner.
  • Act as property wide Director on Duty as scheduled.
  • Assume responsibility of accounting department in absence of the Controller.
  • Complete/assist on special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
  • Three to five years prior accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Effective at building relationships with a wide range of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and Hotel Accounting Systems.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with tact and professionalism.
  • Ability to handle and strictly maintain confidential information.
  • Operations experience, especially in a hospitality environment, helpful.
  • Possess or obtain an Arizona Drivers’ License and comply with Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.
