Market Meat Department Assistant
The Opportunity
Under the guidance of the Market Assistant Manager, the Meat Department Assistant will ensure the quality and quantity of products in the display cases. Responsibilities include receiving and displaying stock, as well as maintaining cleanliness in the department. Additionally, the meat cutter will assist customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
What You Get to Do
- Responsible for the efficient, profitable, and safe operations of the meat department under the supervision of the Meat Department Specialist.
- Will adhere to all procedures and schedules related to ordering, receiving, storing, processing, pricing, rotating, and displaying meat items.
- Maintain cleanliness in both selling and backroom storage areas, following sanitation standards set by the store and governmental agencies.
- Ensure the Meat Department meets desired quality, variety, pricing, and display standards as directed by the Meat Department Specialist.
- Proficient in identifying and preparing various types of meat cuts (beef, pork, chicken) and packaging and wrapping meat packages.
- Possess working knowledge of and safely operate all meat department equipment, including but not limited to the band saw, grinder, wrapping machine, and Hobart scale.
- Support advertised and in-store promotions, contribute to creating the desired store image, and maintain positive customer relations.
- Monitor meat case and cooler temperature within acceptable guidelines.
- Handle all duties and projects assigned by the Assistant Store Manager.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

What Qualifies You
- Must be Serv-Safe certified within six (6) months of employment.
- Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring process.
Must Have Skills

- Must be able to clearly explain and demonstrate concepts and skills to others.
- Ability to effectively respond to questions from groups of Associates, managers, Customers and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the Associate must regularly:
- Regular required to sit, stand and use the hands to handle objects, tools or controls.
- Must frequently walk, talk or hear and reach with the hands and arms, occasionally the associate must crouch or kneel.
- Must be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items stored in elevated or overhead racks or shelves located above in various storage areas.
- Must have sufficient memory retention skills to memorize weekly sale ad prices and equipment operations.
- Must occasionally exert or lift up to 70 pounds, carry bulk containers and other materials.
- Must be able to stock refrigerated cooler areas working under temperature extremes up to twenty minutes.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to:
- A low-to-moderate noise level (offices).
- A moderate-to-loud noise level (operations areas).
