Job Overview
The Medical assistant serves as the primary pet medical care staff for the organization. It oversees all medical care and treatment of pets owned by Grand Companions. This included daily pet handling, cleaning, administration of procedures and treatments, as well as assessments of behavior and quality of life. The position also demands extensive electronic documentation for all actions taken for all pets under our care, and coordination for pet care through various veterinarians for
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates documentation and all routine care for incoming pets, recommends pets for isolation, and identifies pets for additional examination.
- Identifies and treats necessary common medical conditions and completes proper documentation.
- Schedule all veterinarian appointments.
- Handles all medical record documentation for care of pets.
- Coordinates input and maintenance of Medical Safety Data Sheets.
- Maintains medical inventory for the organization.
- Coordinates, schedules, and transports pets to any necessary off-site medical care.
- Educates and consults with adopters about routine healthcare information.
- Understands guidelines of “Practicing Medicine without a License” and what can/cannot be done.
- Handles other duties as assigned.

Work Experience
Minimum of 1 year with veterinarian, boarding, pet daycare, shelter, or other pet herd health situations.
Education
High School Degree. Technical or College Degree beneficial.
