Job Overview: The School Physical Therapist at the Grand Coulee Dam School District provides services to students who have physical impairments that affect their ability to perform tasks in the school setting. The therapist evaluates, develops, and implements individualized therapy programs aimed at improving students' functional skills, mobility, and overall participation in the educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct physical therapy assessments for students referred by teachers, parents, or school staff, evaluating physical capabilities, mobility, and motor skills.
- Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) for students, collaborating with the IEP team to determine goals, strategies, and progress monitoring.
- Provide direct therapy services to students, addressing physical limitations, enhancing strength, and promoting mobility.
- Work with teachers and staff to integrate therapy goals into the classroom setting, ensuring accessibility and participation in school activities.
- Educate and train teachers, aides, and parents on the student’s needs and how to assist in promoting therapeutic goals.
- Modify the physical environment as needed, recommending assistive devices and equipment to support student participation.
- Track and document student progress, adjusting therapy plans as necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention and first aid as needed in emergency situations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of therapeutic practices and legal requirements within the school setting.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, counselors, and administrators to ensure comprehensive care for students.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Physical Therapy (PT) from an accredited program.
- State licensure as a Physical Therapist.
- Experience working with children, particularly in a school or pediatric setting, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of school-related physical therapy needs and IEP development.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, and parents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions:
- Part-time position, 1 day per week during school hours.
- Classroom and school environment, with some outdoor activity for physical assessment.
- May require occasional travel between multiple school sites within the district.
Physical Demands:
