JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for County operations for handling unlicensed, stray, and uncontrolled animals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Patrols County, impounds uncontrolled animals with net, rope, or other device, and brings animals to County shelter to include implanting microchip identification.
  • Issues verbal warning and written citations to pet owners failing to comply with County registration requirements.
  • Maintains and cleans patrol vehicle.
  • Processes animal adoptions for the County, coordinating with local veterinarians for spaying and neutering.
  • Assists in providing food, water, and personal care to detained animals.
  • Examines captured animals for injuries and delivers injured animals to Veterinarian for medical treatment.
  • Euthanizes animals if dangerous to society or medically ill.

JOB FUNCTIONS (ROTATING BASIS)

  • Maintains and cleans animal shelter to include kennels, outside yard area, office and public access areas as required.
  • Writes reports on impoundment activities of domestic pets.
  • Assists the public in adopting animals and retrieving their impounded animals.
  • Answers telephone.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or general education diploma (GED), or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some Experience in caring for animals is desirable.

Special Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age. Possession of a valid, State of Colorado driver’s license. Requirement exists at

the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of legal and law enforcement animal control issues.
  • Knowledge of animal science, animal behavior and capture methods.
  • Skill in public relations and conflict resolution.
  • Skill in standard office computer use.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,

and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before county residents or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common

fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public,

supervisors, and other County officials.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30

pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, this position

also requires the ability to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and

talk and hear; frequently walk and sit; occasionally stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally

lift and/or move 100 pounds; occasionally run to capture animals; use close vision, distance vision, color

vision, peripheral vision, depth perception; and adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the office work environment is usually loud. The employee is regularly exposed to

outside weather conditions. While on patrol the employee is required to travel the majority of the time

on patrols throughout the county.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,028.17 - $75,672.09 per year
