What are the responsibilities and job description for the School-Within-A-School (SWIS) Teacher position at Grand Forks?
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Qualifications: Must have or be eligible for a North Dakota teaching license in qualified area.
Job Goal: Provide small-group or one-on-one instruction in core academic subjects—including English, Math, Science, Social Studies—as well as select elective courses for students in need of credit recovery or those placed in alternative educational settings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Designing and implementing individualized academic progress plans that align with students’ personal learning goals and graduation requirements.
- Collaborating closely with classroom teachers to ensure that instructional support and materials are aligned with specific departmental standards.
- Ability to support and monitor student progress within online credit recovery platforms or alternative programming, ensuring consistent academic growth.
- Regularly assessing and tracking student progress and sharing targeted data with the RRHS Tier 3 team to support intervention planning.
- Strong communication with students, families, and staff is essential to proactively address academic challenges and share strategies for success.
- The Teacher is expected to foster a positive, encouraging, and structured environment that builds student motivation, accountability, and long-term success.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.
Terms of Employment: 188 days contract
Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
