What are the responsibilities and job description for the NORA Recreation Summer School Program Staff position at Grand Haven City Hall?
Position Summary
Providing safe, structured and unstructured daily activities for participants in the NORA Recreation Summer School day camp program. Location varies- typically a school or park. Hours are Monday-Friday 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. during the program and additional hours for planning may be needed.

Daily responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to:
Supervise playground activities and camp activities with a focus on safety.
Actively engage participants in daily activities.
Address problems with participants, staff, parents or NORA as appropriate.
Maintain accurate attendance sheet.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applicants for this position must meet the following criteria:
Access to reliable transportation
Demonstrated ability to work with children and adults in a positive manner
Strong Communication skills between children, parents and staff are essential
Leadership Skills
Experience with children ages 5-10 years preferred
Must meet all standards for being hired to work in school building
Must be at least 18 years of age
Working conditions
This job will be primarily outdoors or in a school building all summer. Must be able to be outdoors in all weather conditions. Applicants must be prepared to help supervise and coordinate programs for large groups of children. We do our best to maintain a 1:10 ratio for adults to kids but there are times when leaders will be in charge of more kids during the day.
Physical requirements
You will be required to be outdoors and active for most of the day. You must be able to walk up to 1 mile at a time to get to lunch or a local park while wearing a backpack or pulling a wagon. Must be able to lift a jug full of water (approximately 20 lbs). Must be able to tolerate exposure to inclement weather including heat, wind and rain as well as dust, dirt and grass.
