The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce is looking for a Workforce Development Director to join our team!

This is a highly professional management position responsible for numerous efforts in the recruitment and retention of the existing workforce and coordinating with educational institutions to ensure the future workforce is familiar with opportunities in Grand Island and have the skills and talents desired by Grand Island businesses.

The Workforce Development Director will exercise considerable autonomy and must use leadership, creativity, innovation and sound judgment in the planning and execution of projects directed toward these responsibilities.

Workforce Development Director DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Workforce Development Director is responsible for consulting with business and industry regarding workforce needs in an effort to recruit and retain business and people in the Grand Island area and will collaborate with educational institutions, Economic Development, Workforce Development and other partners to provide and create a full range of workforce solutions for business and industry. This position coordinates training and education sessions, Young Professional group and other related committees and/or initiatives.

  • Engage in direct business contact, resulting in recruitment of new Chamber business partners.
  • Consults with businesses regarding their workforce needs and collaborates with employers, community-based organizations, and educational institutions/organizations to develop workforce solutions that meet identified needs.
  • Develop and communicate job opportunities and work experience opportunities to key workforce development partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with businesses, human resource professionals, Workforce Development, educational institutions and other key stakeholders.
  • Promote and market available services to the community.
  • Collaborate with Chamber staff to implement a marketing plan that increases the number and diversity of businesses utilizing employment and training programs offered through the Chamber.
  • Serve on committees and boards that are active in workforce development and community development.
  • Analyze, measure and track programming and scope of work.
  • Produce professional summary reports of meetings and events.
  • Leads marketing efforts to promote careers in Grand Island, both to students and to those currently working elsewhere.
  • Coordinates activities to ensure awareness by youth and parents of the career opportunities available with Grand Island area businesses.
  • Coordinates and assists businesses with implementing apprenticeship, internship and related training programs.
  • Serve as support personnel on special projects.
  • Assist in maintaining Partner databases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Chamber in all work produced.
  • Support other Chamber events and initiatives as requested.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in Grow Grand Island Initiative.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee is responsible for coordinating his/her own work as well as providing supervisory support for Chamber volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed should be representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Knowledge of business community, economic development and/or community development programs.

Knowledge of employment and training programs and services.

Understanding of business and how local policies and legislation can affect the profitability of business.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people, committees, and build consensus.

Strong leadership skills.

Strong presentation skills as well as written, verbal and communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, spreadsheet and database management in a Windows-based environment.

Ability to work with limited supervision in a fast paced environment.

Ability to successfully plan, organize and manage multiple projects and tasks.

Experience with planning and managing meetings and events.

Proven ability to handle multiple projects at once.

Ability to provide excellent customer service and be a team player.

Ability to produce a large quantity of work at high quality.

Ability to communicate – verbal, non-verbal and listening skills with volunteers, members, peers, and coworkers.

Must be a self-starter, detail oriented and reliable business professional.

Must be results oriented.

Must be organized and adhere to deadlines.

Must be responsible and accountable.

Experience with accounting procedures, budget preparation and management ability to price programs with net profitability.

Marketing skills to market programs for maximum benefit to members and the Chamber.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS

Position requires regular contact with various members of the business community and governmental entities. Employee meets periodically with the Chamber Board of Directors and internal committees to review financial status.

CONFIDENTIAL/SENSITIVE INFORMATION

Employee is exposed to confidential information on a daily basis.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Requires college degree in business, management, marketing or related field.

Experience: Two or more years working in the workforce development, community development or public policy area.

Equipment used: Position requires use of a computer and its software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Some lifting and carrying

· Requirements generally occurring in an office environment, including but not limited to: keyboarding, file retrieval, and communicating (verbal and written).
