General Position Summary: Instrumental Technician with Automation background. Devises, selects, sets up, and operates electronic instrumentation and related electromechanical or electrohydraulic apparatus used for operational and environmental testing of mechanical, structural, or electrical equipment, and translates test data for engineering personnel. The ACR Instrument Technician must have a good working knowledge of electronic and pneumatic instrumentation systems, components and end devices. They must have good written and verbal communications skills and must be technically competent and able to work alone with no supervision at times. He must have a full working knowledge of all GIS Safety, Environmental and Administrative Policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned)
- Participate in Hazard Management reviews
- Create Local Work Instructions, Site Specific Task Lists, and Bill of Materials (BOMs)
- Provide operational guidance to engineering
- Participate in factory acceptance tests and system integration tests
- Review and provide input to MOC’s or variances
- Review System Commissioning Procedures and participate in commissioning
- Own various equipment systems and ensure robust preventive maintenance plans, procedures, and spare parts are in SAP Blueprint
- Develop System Operation Manuals
- Develop start-up, purge, and operating procedures
- Safe and compliant performance of routine repairs and maintenance on DCS, GID, safety shutdown systems, fire and gas systems, marine systems, communication systems, networks, and DACA
- Compliance with BSEE and USCG regulations and EPA permits
- Maintenance duties including performing PMs, routine CMs, support of DCS, GID, safety shut down systems, fire and gas systems, marine systems, communication systems, networks, and DACA
- Support operators and crafts in surveillance of critical equipment to process systems
- Ensure Safe Production (ESP) work process duties including shift handover, start of shift orientation, shift team meeting and planning, end of shift reporting, proactive technical monitoring, managing abnormal situations, etc.
- ICS response during emergency or response situations * Actively participate in COMPANY’s safety programs & BBSM
- Can demonstrate an understanding of company/ industry/occupation-specific safety standards and procedures i.e., GIS E&I Health, Safety and Environmental Policies, GIS E&I Electrical Safe Work Practices, NFPA 70 E, Lock-out/Tag-out procedures, all applicable OSHA regulations, etc.
- Can demonstrate an understanding of the principles of basic electricity and electronics.
- Can demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of industry codes, standards and recommended practices i.e., National Electric Code, API RP 500, API RP 505, API RP 14 F, API RP 14FZ, API RP 14C, etc.
- Can demonstrate the ability to identify, select and operate electrical and electronic measuring and test and calibration equipment such as volt-ohm meters, ammeters, decade resistance boxes and continuity testers.
- Can demonstrate the ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, ladder logic diagrams, schematics, piping and instrument diagrams, pneumatic control schematics, blueprints and manuals.
- Can demonstrate the ability to properly identify, select and operate electrician’s tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, hacksaws, soldering guns, power tools, etc.
- Can demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, repair or replace malfunctioning PLCs, electronic or pneumatic instruments and components.
- Can demonstrate the ability to perform bench and field calibration of pneumatic and electronic instruments, transmitters, controllers and recorders.
- Can demonstrate the ability to perform pressure testing of pneumatic instruments for leaks.
- Can demonstrate the ability to perform pressure testing of pneumatic instruments with controllers, transducers, and valves in service.
- Can demonstrate the ability to perform loop checks of electrical wiring for continuity and proper termination point.
