POSITION: Infection Preventionist
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Regional, Full Time, 1.0 FTE

JOB SUMMARY: The Infection Preventionist develops, implements and monitors infection control standards for patients, visitors, volunteers and healthcare workers at Fairview Range and Grand Itasca. They serve as a resource for staff, providers and leadership on infection prevention policies and practices, and help improve patient care by identifying risks and facilitating interventions.
JOB DUTIES:
The Infection Preventionist has training and experience in the identification, prevention and control of infection. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinates and maintains an organization-wide infection control and surveillance program.
- Conducts epidemiological investigations
- Ensures compliance with system policies for identifying, reporting, investigating, preventing, and controlling infections.
- Facilitates processes to improve clinical outcomes and patient safety
- Educates staff on principles and techniques of Infection Prevention
- Consults with nursing and medical staff on infection control and employee health issues
- Facilitates ICRA process and monitoring during construction projects
- Prepares periodic reports for quality and operational committees.
- Meets mandatory reporting requirements to MDH and CDC.
- Assists in regulatory rounding to ensure compliance with TJC, OSHA, MDH standards
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology or biology; or current licensure/certification in one the following: (Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Registered Nurse (RN), or Respiratory Therapist (RT)
- Current CIC (Certification in Infection Control) or willingness to obtain certification within one year of eligibility
- Minimum of one year in an Infection Prevention role or related clinical experience
- Knowledge of quality improvement tools and group process skills.
- Skilled in investigation, analyses, data collection and report writing
- Strong organizational and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates behavior that fits with the organization's Mission, Vision and Values.
- Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
