Position: Half-Time Assistant Transportation Supervisor / Half-Time Bus Driver

Reports to: Transportation Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non - Exempt

Employment Status: Part-Time (1.0 FTE 0.5 Asst. Supervisor / 0.5 Dispatcher-Router)

Salary & Benefits: Competitive hourly wage based on experience and district salary guidelines; eligibe for pro-rated benefits according to district policy.

Summary:

The Half-Time Transportation Supervisor / Half-Time Bus Driver plays a dual role within the school district. As an assistant supervisor, this individual oversees day-to-day transportation operations, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, manages scheduling and routing, and communicates with staff and families. As a driver, this person safely transports students along assigned routes and schedules. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-focused, and committed to providing excellent service to students, families, and school staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher in a related field preferred.
• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with school bus (S) and passenger (P) endorsements.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in school transportation; supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to use routing and scheduling software and standard office applications.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and occasional evenings or weekends.

Assistant Transportation Supervisor (50%)

• Coordinate and oversee daily transportation operations, including routing, scheduling, and dispatching.
• Supervise transportation personnel, including bus drivers and aides.
• Maintain compliance with state and federal transportation regulations.
• Ensure proper maintenance and inspection of the district’s fleet in collaboration with mechanics or vendors.
• Monitor driver certification and training records; schedule required professional development.
• Respond to transportation-related inquiries and concerns from parents, staff, and community members.
• Assist in budgeting, cost control, and fuel usage monitoring.
• Collaborate with school administration to support student transportation needs, including special education and extracurricular trips.
• Maintain detailed records and reports as required.

Bus Driver (50%)

Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.

Enforce rules and procedures to ensure the safety and discipline of students on the bus.

• Report any incidents, disciplinary issues, or mechanical concerns.
• Maintain accurate records, including mileage, times, and student counts.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
