What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) - PRN position at Grand River Health?
BASIC FUNCTION: The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) serves as a member of the Rehabilitation Services department at our Care Center. They will assist in the implementation of treatment plans in a long-term care environment designed by the supervising therapist to help patients develop, regain or maintain their ability to perform daily activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches residents skills/techniques regarding how to use adaptive equipment for participating in activities.
- Demonstrates proficiency in current treatment techniques to include: manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education and training, use of electrotherapeutic modalities as appropriate.
- Observes, records and reports to therapist the conditions, reactions and responses to procedures and programs implemented and progress toward established goals.
- Reviews each patient chart prior to scheduled services.
- Works under the supervision of staff Occupational Therapists and in coordination with other members of the Rehabilitative Services department and the Care Center team.
- Responsibilities include aiding in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Documents and completes each resident’s notes and records charges in the system in accordance with department standard practices.
- Uses patient-centered approach in provision of care and continually exhibits a customer service approach in all interactions to include patients, residents, family, staff, facility administration, and physicians.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited program and must have successfully passed or be scheduled for the board examination.
- Requires Occupational Therapy Assistant certification.
- Current BLS certification required upon initial employment and must be maintained throughout GRHD employment.
- Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in a Rehabilitative Services setting preferred.
- Long term care experience in a similar role preferred.
SALARY INFORMATION:
- $29.00 - $34.83 Dependent on Experience
- 10% differential in addition to base rate salary
- Additional $2.00 - $4.00 an hour for additional weekend and night shifts
