What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Tech (MT / MLT / MLS) position at Grand River Health?
SALARY INFORMATION :
- $28.00 - $38.64 Dependent on experience may vary outside this range
- 10% differential in addition to base rate salary
- Additional $2.00 - $4.00 an hour for additional weekend and night shifts
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a two-year associate degree program in Medical Laboratory Technology or BS in Medical Technology or equivalent is required.
- Must be ASCP / AMT certified or equivalent.
- Must have current BLS card within 3 months of initial employment and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment.
- 1 to 2 years of professional experience preferred.
BASIC FUNCTION: The Lab Tech performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs manual and automated routine medical lab tests such as urinalyses and blood counts.
- Prepares specimens for examination by microscope.
- Operates laboratory equipment including centrifuges, dry bath incubators, and blood bank refrigerators.
- Conducts only waived and moderate level testing as classified by CLIA.
- Reports test results as accurately as possible to ensure quality control. Prepares samples for testing.
- Uses microscopes, a variety of chemicals, computers and precision instruments to perform complex analyses.
- May perform supervisory and administrative duties under the direction of the Laboratory Director.
- Performs clerical tasks related to laboratory services.
- Follows standardized procedures.
- Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
