What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Server position at Grand River Health?

BASIC FUNCTION: The Patient Server works as a member of the Nutritional Services team. Main tasks include taking patient orders and delivering food and beverage orders to patients on the hospital campus. They will offer appropriate meal suggestions in accordance with patient dietary requirements and explaining menu and dining options to patients. Success in the position requires attention to detail, exceptional customer service and ensuring correct and prompt delivery of nutritional orders. The ideal candidate will execute duties and responsibilities with prioritization of patient needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stocking patient and guest waiting areas with appropriate items and preparing patient food.
- Greets and serves customers in the café, including employees, patients, and visitors.
- Customer interactions include answering phone calls, receiving meal orders from patients and nursing staff, informing customers about services available, explaining menu items, providing suggestions to customers when asked, etc.
- May at times provide day to day instruction to nutritional services support staff. To include delegation of tasks to member of the nutritional services team when patient needs necessitate.
- May help in stocking freezers, storing and stocking items on delivery days and cleaning and maintaining the kitchen, pantry, storage areas, and equipment.
- May prepare raw ingredients as assigned and obtaining and documenting temperatures of foodstuffs according to departmental guidelines and standard practices prior to food leaving kitchen to ensure quality service for patients.
- Responsible for checking material and supply stock levels and reporting when stock is low.
- At times meal preparation duties may include but are not limited to: stocking salad bar, brewing coffee, stocking refrigerated storage areas, transferring food to and from the kitchen, etc.
- Cross trains with other members of the Nutritional Services Department including Cooks/Prep Cooks, Cashier, etc.
- May assist with conference room accommodation and Meals on Wheels preparation at times.
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Works under immediate supervision.
- Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must obtain Food Handler Certification from an ANSI accredited program within one month of hire and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment.
- Two years of previous professional experience in related position preferred.
- Two years of experience in customer service position preferred.

- $17.50 - $26.57 Dependent on Experience
- 10% differential in addition to base rate salary
- Additional $2.00 - $4.00 an hour for additional weekend and night shifts
