Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Surgery Scheduler to join our healthcare team. The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for coordinating surgical procedures, verifying insurance coverage, and managing patient check-in processes. This role ensures smooth scheduling operations while providing excellent customer service to patients, families, and medical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule surgical procedures efficiently, coordinating with surgeons, medical staff, and patients.
- Verify patients' insurance coverage, obtain pre-authorizations, and ensure all necessary documentation is completed before surgery.
- Communicate with insurance providers to confirm benefits, co-pays, and eligibility requirements.
- Provide patients with pre-operative instructions, including any necessary paperwork or preparatory steps.
- Manage patient check-in on the day of surgery, verifying personal and insurance information, collecting co-pays, and ensuring all required forms are signed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date scheduling records in the electronic health system (EHR/EMR).
- Work closely with the billing department to ensure accurate charge capture and reimbursement.
- Address any patient concerns or scheduling conflicts in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality policies.
- Perform other administrative duties as needed to support the surgical team.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred).
- Experience in medical scheduling, insurance verification, or a related healthcare administrative role.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and insurance processes.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and scheduling software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy laws.
Work Environment:
- Office or clinical setting within a hospital, outpatient surgery center, or medical practice.
- Regular interaction with patients, medical staff, and insurance representatives.
- May require occasional extended hours or flexibility in scheduling.
