Grand Steel in Wixom, MI is looking for an Inventory Control Assistant who is responsible for assisting in maintaining accurate records of rolled coil steel inventory. This role ensures efficient tracking, storage, and movement of materials. The position requires a self-starter who has strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records for rolled coil steel, including stock levels, locations, and material conditions.
- Receiving & Inspection: Verify incoming shipments, inspect steel coils for quality, and ensure proper documentation.
- Stock Reconciliation: Conduct regular cycle counts and full inventory audits to identify discrepancies and resolve variances.
- Order Fulfillment: Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of internal and external material requests. Working with sales to contact outside processors to get pricing, timing and capabilities for processing material.
- Data Entry: Utilize inventory management software to track stock movement and generate reports as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with sales, production, and logistics teams to align inventory levels with operational needs.
- Material testing: Work with in-house laboratory on testing product and then enter results into inventory.
- Pricing: keep up with daily pricing on all materials, as well as a monthly price on scrap rates and setting up material to scrap.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 2 years in inventory control, warehouse operations, or supply chain management, preferably in the steel or manufacturing industry.
- Education: High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or a related field is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in inventory management and Microsoft Excel.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail to identify and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordination with suppliers, warehouse teams, and management.
