WASTEWATER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Upgrades Crew

Performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of pump station wet wells, bulk meter chambers, and collection system facilities; works and coordinates efforts within the department and with other departments; does related work as needed. Performs essential work functions during inclement weather conditions. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Works as a member of a crew performing maintenance and rehabilitation on sewer lift stations.

Assists Crew Leader with pump station upgrades, organization of materials, installations, repairs, replacement of discharge piping, ball checks, safety nets and hatches;

Enters permit required confined spaces as needed;

Operates and maintains boom truck, generators, bypass pumps and other equipment as needed;

Communicates existing and potential problems with direct supervisor; recommends corrective measures;

Performs semi-skilled pump repairs,

Maintains department facilities;

Investigates collection system for inflow/infiltration problems and makes repairs;

Performs on-call response after hours and on holidays on a rotating basis and responds to emergencies as needed;

Performs typical troubleshooting procedures on residential grinders and submersible pumps;

Performs electrical diagnostics within pump control panels (i.e. collect amps, voltage, resistance through cable);

Assists with sewer transmission system shutdowns;

Performs all tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with approved safety procedures;

Performs intermediate math functions;

Maintains an inventory of tools, keeps vehicle clean and organized, well stocked, and in presentable appearance to the public;

Performs related tasks as required.

Advanced knowledge of all department CMOM Programs, methods and procedures; intermediate knowledge of tools, materials, equipment and procedures used in the operations of a sanitary sewer collection system; knowledge of GIS mapping system; competent in hydraulics; competent mechanical skills; proficient in computer software and programs; skilled knowledge of electrical equipment and low voltage electricity with troubleshooting experience; ability to read pump curves; ability to calculate friction losses; ability to think independently, follow and provide oral and written instructions with good decision making skills; ability to organize and plan; ability to read plans and asbuilts; ability to work for extended periods of time in all weather conditions; ability to lift up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to properly use and maneuver various powered and non-powered tools and/or equipment; ability to move and traverse work sites on unpaved streets, uneven ground and cluttered work areas; ability to work and make visual observations in day and night; ability to drive a vehicle daily; and the ability to bend, reach, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of a sanitary sewer collection system.

Possession of a valid Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements.

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE WASTEWATER COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT. PAY RANGE IS $21.62 TO $32.43 PER HOUR. DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS IS 5:00 PM, TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 2025.
