What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Clerk (Summer) position at Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians?
SUMMARY
The Law Clerk will assist in the duties with the staff in the Legal Department. This position tentatively will start May 15, 2023 and commence August 14, 2023. Will be flexible with Law Student class schedule if outside of these dates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed 2L year by Summer 2023
- Native American Law coursework completed by clerkship start date.
- Intent to practice Tribal Law and Federal Indian Law.
- Familiarity with Tribal Communities and Cultures
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To report to work promptly, as scheduled, Monday through Friday.
- To be in compliance with all GTB policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITES
- Must have at least some experience working with computers.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must have good organizational, filing, phone, and typing skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure and handle multiple projects.
- Ability to work independently, with people in a group setting, and be a team player
- Must be reliable and maintain confidentiality.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree with 1st year law school completed 2nd year preferred.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED
Computer, copier, fax machine and phone.
