What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aerie Waitstaff (PT & FT) position at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa?
SUMMARY
This is dedicated to exceeding expectations of both internal and external guests to ensure the highest level of service is consistently provided. Teamwork is the key to success in providing a warm and personal experience. The Servers role will be to provide excellent guest service with the support of the Assistant Server. The Server will ensure the proper set up of the station and work areas assigned and the smooth serving of food and beverage to all of his/her guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To report for duty punctually, in full uniform according to appearance and grooming standards
To promote and maintain a positive working relationship at all times with all the Colleagues
To demonstrate a complete understanding of all policies, procedures and standards stated in Employee Handbook
To consistently offer professional, friendly and warm hospitality to all guests
To attend all required training sessions and be aware of any changes to menus, hotel and departmental policies and procedures, service standards as well as business trends and requirements
To use empowerment to turn challenges into opportunities
To demonstrate a complete knowledge and understanding of the sequence of service, food and beverage service standards, and all other service standards as outlined
To have full and complete knowledge of the food menu, dessert menu, coffee and tea menu as well as all other beverage menus and the wine list. To know about menu items, ingredients, preparation methods and garnishes for all dishes. To be able to guide the guest through the menu and make any suggestions or recommendations in the guests’ interest. To be able to answer any guest question about food items, beverages and wines in an informative and helpful way.
To be aware of all cashiering procedures and the handling of all payment methods.
To understand and follow Micros procedures
To lead and guide the Server Assistant ensuring efficient and effective teamwork
To communicate all service requirements to the respective team members in an efficient and effective way
To ensure that all work areas and stations are kept clean and tidy at all times
To perform all opening, side and closing duties as well as all daily and weekly duties to the set standards as outlined
To attend pre-shift, weekly and monthly meetings to be well-informed
To assist all guests (internal and external) with any enquiries or requests in a pleasant, helpful manner
To actively participate in and follow all health and safety policies and procedures
Carrying out any miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as requested by your Manager pertaining to total quality service
Must understand and abide by environmental practices of the resort
Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Must be 18 years of age, as required by law
High School Diploma or equivalent
TIPS certified preferred
Previous work experience within an upscale high volume establishment
Knowledge of fine dining and good knowledge of wines/beverages
Previous fine dining restaurant experience
Understanding of full service environment
Experience working in a hospitality role is preferred
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff; ability to handle cash and accurately make change. Must be able to understand and comply with all departmental and Company rules, regulations, Policies and procedures. A fine dining Server must be able to handle difficulties with customers and staff alike. This position is responsible for keeping multiple details organized. Servers need an excellent memory and good organizational skills, ensuring that customers get the correct orders, and helps other staff members when able. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a team player attitude with the ability and willingness to learn new concepts and ideas. Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner. The position requires that the Server work 3-5 days per week and is able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, Sunday mornings, and holidays.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position include lifting heavy trays, standing for extending periods of time, and excellent hand-eye coordination. Other physical demands include being able to walk for long periods of time without rest or sitting down, especially on a very busy night. Balance is also a must for any Server, along with the ability to multi-task several projects at once. Must be able to climb stairs and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis. Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50lbs at shoulder height. Must be able to bend, squat, push, and pull frequently. Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently; squeezing and overhead reaching occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This is located an inside, with occasional loud noise levels. The temperature of the restaurant is controlled by thermostats that run the heating and cooling systems.
