What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Painter (FT) position at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa?
SUMMARY
This position responds to any maintenance repair requests, assesses the problem, and repairs or refers the situation to a supervisor for further action in a timely manner. Responsible for keeping all Resort property and equipment in good repair so guest satisfaction is achieved. Will design, construct or repair any carpentry needs throughout the entire property and monitor and repair any painting, wallpaper, tile, doors, carpet or drywall needs in the resort.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain superior working relations with internal and external customers.
Respond to maintenance request in guest and meeting rooms.
Complete all assignments requested.
Wear and respond to mobile radio. Be responsible for the condition of personally assigned mobile radio.
Be responsible for the condition of all assigned tools and equipment.
Plan projects and order supplies in advance to assure work is done in a timely manner and to obtain the best price
Paint rooms, guest and service areas as needed; stain and touch up doors, frames and trim
Respond to all work orders related to carpentry
Repair furniture, molding and doors
Build shelves and desks using Formica
Maintain adequate inventory and requisition supplies
Designate freshly painted areas with signage
Complete all assignments requested of you.
Must follow proper grooming and dress standards set forth by the Employee Handbook.
Maintain open line of communication with supervisor.
Any other general maintenance duties deemed appropriate by direct supervisor.
Must understand and abide by environmental practices of the resort.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Must have a High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess valid Michigan driver’s license and be insurable by the company’s plan. Must have a minimum of 2 years experience residential/commercial painting experience. Must know how to hang, repair, and finish drywall. Must have knowledge of mixing paint and stain & application. Ability to hang and repair wallpaper is essential. Must have experience in the use of PDA’s for work order and inventory system. This position will furnish their own hand tools.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Engineering is a service department that requires an interpersonal skill set to work with guests, other engineering staff members, resort team members and other departments. Teamwork in providing professional service must include the ability to communicate in a way that assures, those receiving service, engineering is addressing their specific needs.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to work from 12 foot ladder and/or from personnel lift up to 35 feet.
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
Safety sensitive – this position will utilize power tools, hand tools, electrical wiring, and deals with lock out/tag out. This list is not all inclusive due to variety of jobs involved which may include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.
TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS
Engineering is a service department so service mentality is a critical skill. Dealing with deadlines and schedules are typical expectations of engineering personnel. Follow through and attention to detail is expected. During emergencies engineering is expected to be knowledgeable and able to provide proficient service.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment in a safe and productive manner.
COMMENTS
