What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Tech 1 (FT) position at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa?
SUMMARY
This position requires you to provide a “POSITIVE” and memorable experience for our guests. You will do this by responding to any maintenance repair requests from our cloud-based hotel property management software and radio dispatch person. Safety is our # 1 concern. You will assess the problem, and repair or refer the situation on to a supervisor for further action in a timely manner. You will keep all resort property and equipment in good repair so guest satisfaction is achieved. You will be responsible for maintaining a bacteria free and chemically balanced water environment for our pool and spa guests. You will provide basic repairs, service and preventative maintenance inspections on all resort equipment. In this position, you will have an opportunity to gain the experience of a Tech II. Your basic hand tools will be furnished by the Engineering Department. You will be responsible for them and treat them as you would your own. Any tool you lose will be replaced at your expense. Any tool that breaks will be replaced at our expense if it was not abused. Tool must be turned in.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide a “POSITIVE” and memorable experience for our internal and external guests.
Maintain open line of communication with supervisor.
Follow proper grooming and dress standards set forth by the Employee Handbook.
Understand and abide by environmental practices of the resort.
Follow all OSHA guidelines.
Repairs to meet all state and local codes and be performed in a workmanship like manner.
Be responsible for the condition of all facility assigned tools and equipment including vehicles.
Learn how to & use our cloud-based hotel property management system and inventory system.
Assist as part of the First Response team during emergencies.
Wear and respond to mobile radio requests using professional radio etiquette.
Respond to maintenance request in guest rooms and meeting spaces.
Perform basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, clean and repair messy areas, loose wallpaper, torn carpet, missing ceiling tiles, leaks, etc.
Perform minor repairs on electrical, gas fired equipment and a variety of appliances.
Handle minor plumbing problems such as clogged drains, backed up toilets, etc.
Change light bulbs and ceiling tiles using ladders or personnel lift.
Respond to mysterious odors and other safety concerns.
Distribute 50# bags of salt to the water softener(s) in the hotel/tower complex
Unload and distribute inventory throughout the entire property.
Implement electrical setups for large and small groups. Assist supervisor with billing.
All other maintenance duties assigned or deemed appropriate by direct supervisor.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High school diploma or GED.
Must possess a current valid Michigan driver’s license and be insurable by the company’s plan.
Must train for and earn their CPO certification within the first year of employment. (Certified Pool Operator)
A general knowledge of plumbing, refrigeration, H.V.A.C. and electrical is required.
Minimum of 1-year of experience working in a hotel, condo or institutional maintenance department is desired.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The Engineering department is “Service Oriented” and requires a professional attitude when dealing with our guests, other engineering staff members, other resort team members and departments. Communication and Teamwork are the KEY Ingredients in everything we do. Communication and Teamwork are essential skills required to address the specific needs of our internal and external guests.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Attention to detail is expected and required.
Follow all OSHA guidelines without taking shortcuts.
Dealing with deadlines and tight schedules.
Must be able to work from 12 ft ladder and/or from personnel lift up to 35 feet.
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
This position will utilize power tools, hand tools, electrical tools and wiring,

WORKING CONDITIONS
You will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and possible risk of electrical shock.
Working on roof of buildings, off extension ladders, personnel lift and other high places.
Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
COMMENTS
Native American Preference will apply. Must be able to pass a background investigation and an Oral Drug Screen as a condition of employment. Must be able to work flexible hours and take on additional responsibilities when asked. Must adhere to company policies regarding strict confidentiality
