Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator III will perform highly complex and difficult construction and maintenance activities by operating a variety of heavy equipment and performing manual labor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Haul and spread sand, gravel, concrete, and clay to fill washouts, cracks, berms, and repair drain shoulders;
- Inspect, clean, and repair drainage systems, culverts, tunnels, and other structures;
- Remove litter, hazardous objects and debris from drains, such as rock, mud, trash, household items and/or deceased animals;
- Cut grass, dig ditches, pick up trash;
- Respond to emergencies by following prescribed procedures;
- Perform "traffic control safe zones" around work areas to control traffic
- Operate trucks, tractors, track hoes, back hoes. skid steers (earth moving equipment) with adjustable attachments to haul rock, gravel, mud, dirt, etc. level easements and ground, install and backfill piping systems, mow grass and weeds.
- Read construction plans and be able to organize and manage an operation site.
- Monitors gauges and other indicators to ensure safe operation.
- Prior to operating equipment, conducts routine inspections to identify needed maintenance or repairs.
- Performs or requests necessary repairs and adjustments to equipment.
- Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines and codes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A with no restriction on air brakes and tanker endorsement that allows operation within Colorado.
AND
- At least two years of experience in physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation.
Required Skills/Abilities:
The following conditions must be met and maintained to be employed and to continue employment at GVDD in this position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class A with no restriction on air brakes.
- Required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e. drug test), and DOT physical through our medical provider.
- Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays.
- Must provide the supervisor with a telephone number where you can be reached for the purpose of responding to an emergency.
Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes and skin.
- Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment, as needed.
- Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products.
- Some equipment requires the use of respirators.
- Work near heavy traffic.
- Use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10 – 20 feet.
- Required to drive CDOT vehicles.
- Frequently responds to emergencies outside regular work hours and may work overtime including weekends and holidays.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
