Grand Valley Manufacturing is looking for a 2nd Shift Manual Lathe Operator to join our team. As a Lathe Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathes to efficiently produce parts to customer specifications.
Role and Responsibilities :
- Able to follow standardized work and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment.
- Perform necessary pre-operation activities to ensure proper equipment startup and operation on multiple pieces of equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and work instructions to set-up machine according to specifications and operate successfully, selecting appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Operate manual lathe in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
- Perform in-process inspection of parts. Adjust machine settings as needed to complete tasks accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Perform safe lifting and maneuvering of parts utilizing hoists, overhead crane, jib crane, and / or forklift.
- Effectively communicate with team members and support teams to ensure production of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials.
- Monitor and maintain proper cleanliness of machine and work areas.
- Possess a keen attention to detail, able to identify and resolve maintenance, product, or operations issues.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Technical degree in machining preferred.

Works in a manufacturing environment and is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and / or airborne particles. The employee will be required to wear eye, foot, and / or other personal protective equipment while performing duties. May on a frequent basis squat, climb, push / pull objects, lift up to 25 lbs., and use hands / fingers for grasping and reaching. May on an occasional basis bend at the waist; reach above the shoulder; turn or twist body; lift up to 50 lbs.; carry up to 35 lbs.; and use hands / fingers for fine manipulation. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud.
Additional Notes
Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Full-time work week is 40-55 hours, Monday – Friday, 10-hour days Monday – Thursday. 12-hour shifts are sometimes required to meet delivery schedules. Saturdays (1 / 2 days) as needed.
