Responsibilities:
This Patient Care Assistant position will float to multiple nursing units. In particular, this position will support the inpatient Lab until mid July by doing mainly phlebotomy during morning rounding for early discharges. After the St. Luke's integration is completed in July, this position will support the nursing units as a full-time float Patient Care Assistant.
Under the direct supervision of the professional staff, the Patient Care Assistant is responsible for providing patient care as well as performing certain non-complex duties related to patient care and functioning of the unit. The Patient Care Assistant functions to support the staff assisting with clerical duties along with delivery of patient care to varied age groups while providing a calm, caring and clean environment.

Essential Functions:
- Performs venipuncture on infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients according to established protocols and procedures so as to provide the best possible specimen for analysis.
- Uses two forms of positive identification of all patients prior to obtaining any specimen and labels that specimen correctly in order to maintain quality of patient care.
- Maintains a working knowledge of Laboratory and Hospital computer routines necessary to process infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, to maintain productivity throughout the Laboratory.
- Processes specimens, i.e., centrifugation aliquoting, delivery, according to established procedures in order to maintain integrity of patient samples.
- Participates in Laboratory quality assurance monitors as appropriate in order to maintain high standards of patient quality care.
- Maintains adequate levels of departmental supplies by stocking and notifying supervisor of shortages in order to maximize Department productivity and maximize cost.

- Following the treatment plan, the Patient Care Assistant works together with licensed personnel to deliver safe, appropriate quality patient care
- Performs necessary function to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction with service
- Assists with patient mobility needs including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulation of patients as directed, using appropriate and proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Accepts responsibility for providing safe, appropriate, quality patient care
- Communicates changes in patients' conditions and unit concerns with the unit-based team
- Performs 1:1 watches as assigned
- Assumes responsibility for ordering and restocking supplies necessary for efficient operation of the department within budgetary parameters
- Possesses and demonstrates a working knowledge of equipment to ensure a safe environment
- Takes an active role in unit-based performance improvement
- Assists in orienting and educating new staff
- Transfers and moves all patient age groups via wheelchair, bed or stretcher to appropriate locations within the hospital
- Understands and respects patients' rights to privacy and dignity to maintain patient confidentiality
- Performs patient related clerical duties, including unit statistics, manuals, logs, entering patient charges, etc.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, every third weekend and every other holiday.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED, required
Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency, Upon hire, preferred
