Responsibilities
The Lead Physical Therapist is responsible for overseeing the Physical Therapy staff in their Outpatient setting and the examination and evaluation of patients and administering Patient Therapy interventions in collaboration with the referring physician. Demonstrates competency in skills necessary to care for and manage primarily adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients outpatient, setting.
Essential Functions :
- Examines and evaluates all new adolescent, adult and geriatric patients referred for Physical Therapy using data from the medical record and physical assessment including pain assessment to identify the patient problems, needs or deficits, especially functionally, for which Physical Therapy is appropriate.
- Interprets the examination and evaluative data using good judgment to identify / prioritize patient problems and needs and establishes a comprehensive documented Plan of Care which includes mutually acceptable treatment goals with patient, family or significant others.
- Reassesses the patient and modifies the treatment plan / resets the goals when appropriate to reflect patient progress and rehabilitation potential.
- Administers Physical Therapy interventions competently (see Competency) specific to the treatment setting according to recognized standards of appropriate care for the primarily adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and observing all indications and contraindications of treatment.
- Demonstrates Physical Therapy competency by attaining desired treatment outcome / goals and successful completion of competency assessment process.
- Performs a learning assessment and identifies educational needs of the patient through appropriate assessment criteria and establishes / implements a teaching plan for the patient, family and / or significant others. Patient education is interdisciplinary whenever appropriate.
- Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently and provide quality care to a volume of an average of 10-12 patients / day according to patient diagnosis and treatment plan intensity.
- Orients / Trains new staff personnel, responsible for remaining abreast and knowledgeable of clinical skills and in promoting education within the PM&R Department and assists with staff performance evaluations and clinical competencies.
- Works collaboratively with other hospital departments and personnel to develop, implement, and support quality care and improvement initiatives and opportunities.
- Organizes / oversees daily schedule / operations to ensure workflow is optimized. Responsible for staffing.
Schedule : Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 8 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm, and Tuesday, Thursday 11 : 30 am - 8 : 00 pm
Qualifications
Education and Experience :
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy (or related field if a more advanced degree in PT is held) required
Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. This requirement is waived for individuals who were licensed prior to the requirement of the Doctorate Degree for licensure. preferred
experience as Physical Therapist required
Master's Degree in Physical Therapy (or related field if a more advanced degree in PT is held) preferred
Licenses and Certifications :
Physical Therapist – Licensed, Upon hire, required
Basic Life Support (BLS), Within 2 weeks of hire, required
