Responsibilities
Under general direction, the Echo Tech will operate in the echocardiology lab and occasionally in the ER, Cath lab, and nursing units, obtaining ordered studies, doing preliminary readings, processing reports and paperwork to assure that assessment and care is appropriate to the age of patients served: adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. There will be rotational on-call.
Echo techs cover the Hospital and occasionally cover rotations at Alderfer Travis Cardiology practice and Buxmont Cardiology practice testing centers on the hospital campus.
Job Duties:
- Operates all Echo equipment in the department and occasionally in other departments in a manner satisfactory to the department Cardiologist, to obtain all types or ordered echocardiograms on pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Recognizes equipment problems, troubleshooting and contacts necessary personnel within 24 hours to correct problems quickly and efficiently.
- Maintains equipment per recommended daily and periodic preventive maintenance schedule to ensure proper operation.
- Does preliminary reports based on data obtained. Recognizes critical patient situations and informs the appropriate physician for appropriate follow-through for patients.
- Performs other procedures done in the Cardiology Department, as has received training and if required.
- Schedules outpatient echocardiograms, utilizing the department calendar, in an efficient and prompt manner to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Maintains a log of completed studies continuously for quality control.
- Prepares and completes billing for procedures rendered according to policy to ensure proper billing.
- Processes all echo reports within 24 hours to ensure proper physician notification.
- Maintains supplies necessary according to department standards for proper unit functioning.
- Able to copy studies to CD/DVD for physicians as requested.
- All echo staff will be required to do Saturday and holiday rotations, based on existing staff. Staff are welcome to switch days with each other.
- All Echo staff will be required to do on-call rotation. On-call during the week will be from when the last tech leaves until 0630 the next morning. The weekend on-call will start Saturday at 4 pm and will continue until 0630 Monday morning. Any weekend sick call will be backed up by the on-call staff person.
Schedule: Per diem as needed coverage for vacations/sick time/busy periods. Occasional call/weekend commitment (appox. every 5-7 weeks).
Qualifications
Education and Experience:Vocational diploma Cardiovascular program required Licenses and Certifications:
