Responsibilities
The Lactation Consultant promotes, protects and supports breastfeeding while recognizing that breastfeeding is an individual decision.
Essential Functions:
- Creates a milieu that promotes learning for staff and patients.
- Conducts bedside lactation rounds.
- Consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems.
- Plans, teaches and conducts in-service education for maternity nursing staff.
- Plans, organizes and delivers lactation management services to all breastfeeding inpatients.
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Able to collect, organize and summarize data related to breastfeeding activities
- Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, manage and develop lactation programs and ability to successfully assist mothers with breastfeeding skills, required
Qualifications
Education and Experience:High School Diploma/GED required Bachelor’s degree in nursing Over 1 year to 3 years’ experience in maternal child health nursing, preferred. ORMaster’s degree Health & wellness with a concentration in Lactation Consulting Over 1 year to 3 years’ experience in maternal-child health nursing, preferred.Licenses and Certifications:Lactation Consultant – IBCLC Certified, Upon hire, required
