These guidelines are not intended to be an all-inclusive description of job functions. The purpose of these guidelines is to outline expectations of the position and generally define responsibilities.

Position Overview:

Porters must maintain a high level of cleanliness throughout the building and surrounding perimeter. All common areas of the building must be kept clean at all times, with necessary repairs and touch-ups made in a timely manner.

All employees must be able to complete all tasks as requested. Porters are primarily responsible for the upkeep of the common areas of the property and to assist with the safe and economical maintenance of the Grandview Condominium. This includes cleaning the interior of the building, facilities and restrooms, floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Daily monitoring and cleaning of the trash shoot is essential to maintain. The building should remain clean and odor free, up to and including the loading dock, all interior spaces and parks/driveways.

Employees need to maintain a positive relationship with owners, fellow workers, and management. Responsible for notifying the Manager of any concerns, property damage, potential building maintenance concerns or repair needs.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Clean designated assigned common areas daily. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, dusting, polishing furniture, and cleaning glass.
  • Maintain property exterior maintenance and presentation. This includes, but is not limited to, watering plants, leaf clean up, cleanliness of breezeway, trash pick-up, maintain dumpster area, etc.
  • Assist with the organization and cleanliness of maintenance shops and remove garbage.
  • Inventory Control – Communicate to management when supplies are needed.
  • Maintain, clean, and organize garbage enclosures, dumpsters, and/or garage compactor room. This includes deodorizing and power washing as needed or directed.
  • Snow Removal – be onsite to assist maintenance team with shoveling and/or salting.
  • Be able to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform various maintenance functions including, but not limited to, painting, caulking, scrubbing, etc.
  • Assist with the organization and cleanliness of supply closet.
  • Maintenance Coverage after hours – execute on call rotation among maintenance team members to ensure someone is always available to handle emergency requests outside of normal business hours.
  • Follow provided standard operating processes and procedures.
  • Maintain communication with all team members and management regarding the completion of daily services and any additional assistance required to carry out duties and responsibilities.
  • Remove trash from the premises.

  • Consistently maintain a professional, courteous attitude when dealing with others in the workplace.
  • Maintain a ‘team player’ approach while working with fellow coworkers, offering to help outside of immediate responsibilities.

Employee Expectations:

As a Grandview Condominium employee, you are a representative of the entire building. All employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner at all times. Employees are required to abide by and enforce all rules, regulations, and restrictions set in place by Management. At no time will Management tolerate offensive, aggressive, or impolite remarks or behavior. Employee conduct is held to these expectations at all times, including during work breaks, and before and after your shift.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of working an eight hour shift.
  • Must be able to attend staff meetings scheduled.
  • Must be willing and able to treat emergencies as such and follow all emergency procedures without question.
  • Able to work during major weather events including snow and ice. Must be able to fill in for full-time or part-time employees who cannot commute to the building due to weather.
  • Must be able to commute to the building for shifts even if public transportation is not working.
  • Must be able to work on holidays. This position may not have to work every holiday, but must fill in for some holiday hours. All recognized holidays are paid at time and a half, even if 40 hours of work is not reached that week,
  • Must be able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses as needed.
  • Must be able to walk and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to quickly and easily navigate the property/building as required to meet job functions.
  • Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities, to include the exchange and receipt of information over the telephone and walkie talkie.
  • Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 50 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must also be able to climb several flights of stairs if necessary.
  • Must dress appropriately for the position and in accordance with company uniform. Uniforms or pieces thereof may or may not be provided by Grandview.
  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detailed oriented and with good reasoning skills.

Pay: $16.00 per hour
