Job Summary:
The Elementary Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher collaborates with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Development:

Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.

Modify and adapt general education curriculum to meet the needs of students with learning, behavioral, emotional, or physical disabilities.

Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies to support student learning and progress.

Provide direct instruction in core academic areas, social skills, and life skills as needed.
Student Support & Assessment:

Conduct assessments to evaluate students’ strengths, challenges, and progress.

Monitor and track student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.

Implement behavior management strategies to support a positive learning environment.

Collaborate with support staff, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and school psychologists, to meet students’ needs.
Collaboration & Communication:

Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusion and differentiation strategies.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, IEP meetings, and concerns.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review student needs and services.

Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with state and federal special education laws.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.

Certification: Must hold or be eligible for a Nebraska Special Education Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements.

Experience: Prior experience working with elementary-aged students with disabilities is preferred.

Skills:

Strong understanding of special education laws, including IDEA and Section 504.

Ability to differentiate instruction and implement accommodations and modifications.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
