Reports To: High School and Middle School Principals
Employment Status: Regular, Exempt, 260 days
General Position Description:
The Assistant Principal will demonstrate the skill, expertise and leadership needed to sustain, organize, advance and administer a quality academic program that provides students the opportunity to grow academically and emotionally in a positive atmosphere that fosters leadership, curiosity, engaged and rigorous learning in an intimate environment. The Assistant Principal reports to the Middle School and High School Principals and is responsible for daily administrative, curricular and co-curricular functions necessary to meet daily needs at Larson Middle School and Grandview Heights High School. The Assistant Principal will serve as an active member of the Leadership Team for the middle and high schools and district alike.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum B.A. degree, with Master’s Degree preferred;
- Valid Ohio Administrator License or evidence that such is obtainable;
- Valid OTES credential or evidence that such is obtainable;
- Experience working with students in grades 6-12 preferred;
- Experience in leadership and management of organizations and people;
- Knowledge of adolescent student development;
- Proven experience in curriculum, instruction and assessment;
- Demonstrated experience in communicating and problem solving with students, parents, staff and community members;
- Must have full support of the Principals, Chief Academic Officer, and Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and administers school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs including co-curricular, curricular and extracurricular activities
- Demonstrates knowledge of the MTSS process and provides leadership to help establish and implement a systematic building-wide MTSS process to support students.
- Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development and student learning.
- Ensures that Board policies and administrative guidelines are implemented and followed at the school. Leads Board policy updates district wide as part of the OSBA updates.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings or by conducting research.
- Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to implement new approaches or strategies to teaching in order to improve student learning and engagement.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record keeping and reporting for all student activities, discipline, attendance and records as required by law.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs including students with special needs.
- Assists with the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action and other human resource issues.
- Organizes and conducts regular meetings with teachers to review student progress and the continuing development of curriculum and instructional techniques.
- Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies. Implements discipline as an opportunity for learning and intervention as needed.
- Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
- Supervision of middle and high school athletic events.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principals and/or Superintendent or their designees.
- Involved in supporting the high school Athletic Director by overseeing middle school athletics to include scheduling duties as well as evaluating middle school coaches.
