1:1 Paraprofessional
SUMMARY: Aide will work under the supervision of the supervisor of the special education teacher while carrying out responsibilities related to the classroom.
RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):
- Reinforces instruction: administer under direction and supervision of teacher remedial or drill activities for individuals or small groups.
- Clerical tasks such as typing, running dittos and record keeping.
- Prepares crafts, bulletin boards, calendar and instructional materials under direction of teacher.
- Assists in helping with children’s physical needs such as toilet training and diapering.
- Keeps the room tidy and toys and equipment clean and organized.
- Supervises classroom during parent meetings, professional consultations or conference. Must be able to assist substitute teacher in room
- Treats students with love, consistency and firmness.
- Possess knowledge in early childhood development in order to foster growth.
- Works with a variety of materials that will help the child develop the prerequisite skills for the academic areas of math, reading, handwriting and gross motor.
- Personable, mature, empathetic
- Communicates with parents orally and in writing.
- Willing to spend time as needed for evening meetings or field trips.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedural manuals.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to calculate mathematical figures.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral form.
- Ability to do problem solving.
- Must show flexibility with a variety of daily tasks and interruptions.
- Ability to prioritize issues and respond professionally and appropriately using sound judgment.
- Must show a positive attitude and willingness to help others.
