Job Description

 

JOB TITLE:  School Psychologist Intern

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in School Psychology from an accredited institution, having successfully completed the required coursework and practicum experiences. The candidate must be in good academic standing and have met all prerequisites for the internship placement. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of psychological assessment, intervention techniques, and ethical standards in school psychology. Effective interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, with the ability to collaborate and work effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

 

REPORTS TO: The Director of Special Education

 

JOB GOAL: The intern psychologist conducts assessments and evaluates the needs and educational programs of referred students. They serve as a consultant to staff and parents regarding student learning concerns and provide guidance on appropriate interventions. Assists in team planning and screening efforts within the assigned buildings, contributing to the development of strategies to support student success.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains and respects confidentiality of students and school personnel information, while maintaining the safety and welfare for all students and staff members.
  2. Conducts classroom observations and individual psychological evaluations, and consults with appropriate professional persons regarding implications, placement, and results.        
  3. Maintains accurate case records of all psychological services provided.
  4. Attends multidisciplinary team meetings on placement of individual students.
  5. Establishes procedures for placement, assessment, and reassessment of students with regard to the special education services program.
  6. Prepares and submits required reports on students with disabilities and special education programs in a timely fashion.
  7. Provide training and other skill-enhancement activities to students, staff, parents, and others within the community regarding the issues of human development, learning, and behavior, as well   as, parenting skills, instructional methods, and behavior management.
  8. Consults with private and/or public practitioners regarding student progress and/or needs.
  9. Consults and/or counsels with students, school staff, and parents regarding academic and/or personal/social needs; provides information regarding community services available to students; makes appropriate referrals regarding vocational needs of students.
  10. Assist teachers in developing specific instructional strategies or programs for students.
  11. Cooperates with staff members and parents in maintaining a positive climate during meetings and/or conferences.
  12. Possesses knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulation, and policies regarding children’s special education eligibility and programming.
  13. Assumes responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records and other documents legally required or administratively useful. Coordinates all evaluations and special student files, and assures that all requirements are met for perfect or near perfect monitoring reports.
  14. Attends staff, professional and interagency meetings.
  15. Maintains knowledge of all laws, administrative codes, and court precedence related to education of exceptional children.
  16. Maintains current knowledge of state and federal legislation related to disabilities; enhances personal knowledge through participation in case conferences, in-service training, professional organizations, meetings, and ongoing program and theoretical research in the field of school psychology; may serve on related committees.
  17. Completes other functions or tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education or required of this position.
  18. Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director           

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

LENGTH: 180-day work year- (2025-2026 School Year)

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $245 per Day-Benefits as determined by the Board of Directors, state law, local board policy

EVALUATION:  At least annually on/before May 1st by the Director of Special Education or designee. New or probationary employees are evaluated more often as per state law, WAC’s, GEA contract and district policy
