Position Overview
The Finance Director provides overall leadership for the financial operations of GBC, Inc. Serving multiple states (New Hampshire & Maine), this role involves strategic financial planning, ensuring compliance with various funding and regulatory requirements, and fostering a mission-oriented team. Collaborating with executive leadership, the Finance Director shapes the organization’s financial health, effectively allocating resources to support high-quality services for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and oversee annual budgets and long-term financial plans in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the executive management team related to financial models, cost-control measures, and investment opportunities.
- Work independently while exercising sound judgment on when to escalate matters to leadership, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning.
- Align financial operations with the strategic plan and core mission of serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
Financial Operations & Accounting
- Establish and maintain comprehensive financial systems, policies, and procedures to support multi-state operations.
- Direct accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and monthly/annual close processes.
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial data, statements, and reports.
- Manage relationships with external auditors and coordinate annual audit processes.
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of regular financial reports and presentations to the leadership team on month-end performance, budget status, forecasts, and strategic planning.
- Lead monthly operating review meetings with local department directors and other members of the leadership team.
Regulatory & Funding Compliance
- Stay current on state and federal regulations affecting funding and service delivery in the developmental disabilities sector.
- Ensure timely and accurate filings, including tax returns, cost reports, and grant compliance documentation.
- Oversee adherence to all contractual obligations, including Medicaid and other government-funded programs.
- Ensure compliance with ASC 606 and IFRS standards in financial reporting.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and support finance team members across multiple locations, fostering a culture of collaboration and dedication to the agency’s mission.
- Identify and implement staff training opportunities to enhance team capabilities and professional growth.
Risk Management & Internal Controls
- Maintain a thorough system of internal controls to protect the organization’s financial assets.
- Proactively identify, evaluate, and address financial and operational risks.
- Work closely with legal and insurance partners to ensure suitable coverage and full compliance.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with program directors to create funding proposals, evaluate program expenditures, and support expansion or introduction of new services.
- Present complex financial information clearly and concisely to various audiences, including the CEO and executive management teams.
Qualifications & Skills
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required. MBA/CPA or equivalent advanced certification strongly preferred.
- At least 7 years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally within a human services or nonprofit environment.
- Proven track record managing multi-state financial operations.
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge
- Familiarity with Medicaid funding, grants management, and government contracts.
- Strong proficiency in financial software and advanced use of Excel or comparable analytical tools.
- Strong understanding of ASC 606, IFRS, and general accounting principles.
Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrated success in leading and developing diverse, multi-location teams.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills for interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to convey complex financial data in a clear, digestible manner to varied audiences.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
