Grader Operator - Maintain existing forest roads

Job Description: The responsibilities of the Road Maintenance Worker include performing routine maintenance tasks on roads, Inspect the forest roads in order to spot malfunctions, such as fallen trees, for damage or wear, and ensuring that all safety protocols are followed and organize repair processes .

Summary: Granite Excavation is seeking experienced Grader Operator to maintain Forest Service roads. Granite is a family owned construction company located in Cascade, ID, as well as operates out of the Boise area. We specialize in earthmoving, underground utilities, paving, and miscellaneous concrete structures in the public and private sectors. We also aim to provide turnkey GC packages in multiple private industries, as well as acting as General Contractors on complex public works projects. Applicant needs to have a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass a drug test. Granite is an equal employment opportunity company.

Primary responsibilities

• Proficient grader operator in mountain areas
• Inspecting roadways for signs of wear and damage
• Performing routine maintenance tasks such as filling potholes, sealing cracks, and clearing debris from the road
• Operating heavy machinery and equipment, such as graders, tractors, and rollers, to repair and maintain road surfaces
• Assisting in the construction of new roads, including grading and paving
• Setting up traffic control devices and directing traffic around work zones
• Applying chemicals, salt, or sand to icy roads to improve traction
• Performing landscaping tasks, such as mowing grass on road shoulders and maintaining roadside vegetation
• Responding to emergency situations, such as road accidents or extreme weather conditions, to assist with cleanup and road repairs
• Maintaining accurate records of work performed and materials used
• Adhering to safety procedures and regulations at all times to ensure a safe working environment

Knowledge
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas

• knowledge of truck and equipment safety
• knowledge of water, sewer and truck operation
• knowledge of operation of front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, excavators, snow blowers and other pieces of heavy equipment
• knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage
• knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques
• knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
• knowledge of record keeping system
• knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures

Skills
The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills

• Previous experience in road maintenance or a similar role.
• Familiarity with road construction and maintenance equipment.
• Physically fit and able to perform strenuous labor for extended periods.
• Excellent understanding of safety protocols in road construction and maintenance.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions.
• A valid driver’s license may be required.

Physical Demands

The Grader Operator has a physically strenuous and demanding job. He/she will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects. The Heavy Equipment Operator will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. The Grader Operator must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way.

The Grader Operator must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. He/she may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection.

The Grader Operator must work independently and is expected to maintain a schedule of work. Any problems or inconveniences may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a limited time.
