SummaryPerforms a variety of routine and specialized medical laboratory diagnostic tests, procedures, experiments and analyses on blood and body fluid specimens for the purpose of providing laboratory data for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Reports directly to technical section supervisor(s).EducationTwo years of formal training or education beyond the high school level (e.g., Associates Degree).Certification, Registration & LicensureMLS/MT/MLT certification preferred. Must meet the minimum requirements to work in a CLIA high complexity testing laboratory.ExperienceNone required.HoursTen Hour Shifts from 2030-0700, every third WeekendResponsibilitiesPerforms, interprets, documents, and reports clinical laboratory diagnostic assays.Performs quality control procedures, maintains control records and problem log documentation.Checks, calibrates and maintains equipment in working order, performing preventive maintenance atprescribed intervals. Insures adequate reagent supplies according to Laboratory and Section policies.Receives and stores supplies per established procedure. Maintains a clean and orderly laboratoryenvironment.Performs technical and procedural problem solving as appropriate.Acts as technical resource to the Lab and all hospital employees, providing instruction on basic theory,technical skills and applications of test procedures. Assists Section Supervisor in the evaluation of newprocedures, installation of new instrumentation, and training of new or modified instrumentation orequipment.Trains and orients Medical Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians, including students.Maintains technical ability to work in at least two (2) of the five (5) technical areas on the day shift, andfour (4) of the technical areas on the evening and night shifts.
