Job Summary
GEAR UP is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is a seven-year federal grant program that provides services and assistance to students to help them successfully graduate from high school ready for college and career. The GEAR UP School Site Coordinator will work at middle and / or high schools serving students and will be housed at a facility provided by the local school district. The School Site Coordinator will represent the school as the primary liaison to the district and the school community related to the GEAR UP grant. This position will provide support to key program components including college and career exploration and post-secondary preparation. In partnership with Utah State University, the GEAR UP School Site Coordinator will ensure that the grant's programmatic requirements are met and will monitor implementation and student success data. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.
Essential Functions
- Work in collaboration with the USU GEAR UP Grant Director, Granite District GEAR UP Grant Coordinator(s), other GEAR UP School Site Coordinators, school staff, higher education institutions, and community partners to implement all programmatic requirements of the grant.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with students, school staff and district personnel.
- Recruit students, teachers, and parents to participate in a variety of programmatic offerings.
- Carry out GEAR UP grant activities that include college awareness events, campus visits, participation in AVID, academic and college planning, paying for college, etc.
- Ensure services are data-driven and aligned with the federal GEAR UP project.
- Create and monitor GEAR UP budgets and expenditures for assigned school and ensure that all efforts supplement, not duplicate, any efforts supported through other federally funded initiatives.
- Help create a college going culture within the school and be a strong resource regarding the essential tools and techniques to create this culture.
- Create a yearly workplan to ensure all work associated with the management, approval, and delivery of GEAR UP services is organized, data driven and aligned with GEAR UP goals.
- Provide monthly updates to the GEAR UP Grant Coordinator on the progress the school is making to achieve the goals and objectives outlined in the GEAR UP grant plan.
- Ensures that data collection and grant matching documentation is collected and provided to appropriate parties on time.
- Attend weekly district GEAR UP PLC meetings with the USU GEAR UP Grant Director, Granite District GEAR UP Grant Coordinator and other GEAR UP School Site Coordinators.
