- Works under the direction of designated certified staff (teacher, therapist, nurse, administrator)
- Supervises students indoors, outdoors, on the bus, and in the community to insure safety of students.
- Provides clerical services , prepares instructional materials, collects data and performs other instructional tasks as assigned.
- Performs under ther direction of certified staff, such as , operating equipment, providing seizure care, special health care and observation, toileting and lifting students, and other appropriate responses to student needs.
- Assists nurses with tube feeding, catherizatation, seizure control therapy, diet control, and other health care services and medical procedures under the direction of a school nurse,
- Assists with communicating with hearing or vision impaired. Works with student in and around swimming pools.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior work with those with disabilities preferred.
- Ability to follow the directions outline by the special education teacher and related service professionals for instructional practice, behavioral interventions, and functional skills development.
- Skilled in the operation of specific achievement testing and data collection.
- Ability to effectively manage stress.
- Makes decisions concerning the best way to accomplish tasks assigned by the classroom teacher and related service professionals.
- Must take directions well and be able to work within specific guidelines.
- Makes suggestions but must be willing to follow directions.

The 504 works under the direction of the school administration to supports individual students with disabilities. The main responsibility of this para is to provide direct intensive service for students.
