Summary
Assist Auburn OP clients in articulating their goals, support learning and practicing new skills, monitor client progress, model effective coping techniques, promote problem-solving and communication skills, and assist in other self-strategies based on the specialist’s own recovery experience. Assist in supporting and advocating to obtain effective services and to maximize the services they are receiving.
Qualifications
- Must be a previous consumer of MH/SUD services with sufficient recovery to provide peer support to clients.
- Experience with and compassion for individuals with substance use and/or co-occurring disorders and those who have been involved in the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of resources, methods, and techniques for all stages of change in substance use treatment.
- Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Informed Care techniques.
- Knowledge of community resources and ability to facilitate referrals.
- Professional presentation.
- Competent interpersonal skills.
- Competent written and verbal communication skills.
- A minimum of 1 year substance free
- Bilingual candidate, preferred
Education/Licenses/Certifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Peer Support Specialist
- General knowledge of 12-Step Programs preferred

Responsibilities
- Establish rapport by demonstrating and maintaining clear, consistent, and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Demonstrate alignment with the philosophy of Motivational Interviewing and be able to collaboratively solve problems in a team setting.
- Demonstrate knowledge of substance use and/or mental health, recovery, wellness, community resources, support services, and referral systems.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience applying principles of peer support.
- Maintain communication with treatment team regarding client needs and treatment plans.
- Attend weekly staff meetings to collaborate on treatment progress and/or emerging issues and be able to articulate the client’s perspective.
- Partner with clients to identify goals and analyze progress toward said goals.
- Ensure clients voice is included in all aspects of their plan and they receive continued support through relevant resources.
- Assist clients in crisis/emergency planning and interventions.
- Assist clients in accessing and scheduling appointments.
- Comply with all federal, state, and agency health and safety reporting requirements.
- Adhere to all HIPAA and HITECH requirements as they pertain to client care.
- Actively utilize, reference, and follow agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.
