About Grant County Mosquito Control District No. 1 (GCMCD)
Established in 1958, GCMCD aims to minimize the mosquito population within the district through surveillance and control activities. Mosquito control reduces vector-borne diseases (Encephalitis & West Nile virus) and increases recreation, tourism and yields of livestock animal production.
Laboratory Assistant Responsibilities
· Deploy and collect adult mosquito traps.
· Identify mosquitoes to the genus and species.
· Accurately record adult mosquito data.
· Follow proper protocol for handling mosquitoes to minimize cross contamination of vector-borne disease.
· Perform RAMP testing to detect West Nile virus and send specimens for further testing.
· Keep laboratory area clean and organized.
· Operate district provided vehicles.
· Maintain access to mosquito surveillance locations using tree loppers.
· Operate truck mounted ULV spray equipment for adulticide applications, as assigned.
· Other duties as assigned.
Employment Requirements - No Experience Required!
· At least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent education.
· Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
· Possess a current Washington State Driver’s License.
· Dependable, reliable, and be able to pass a drug screening test.
· Applicants must be able to work independently as well as cooperatively with other employees and the public.
· Applicants must be able to walk long distances over uneven terrain, able to lift and carry heavy loads (50 lbs.), and carry 15lbs over uneven terrain.
· Able to sit and lean over a table for long periods of time (4-6 hours/day).
· New hires will be required to pass WSDA Pesticide Applicators license exams. GCMCD will provide study materials necessary for exams.
Additional Information
· No experience necessary, all training will be provided!
· Starting wage $19.75/hour with a pay increase to $21.75/hour after attaining a WSDA Pesticide applicator license.
· Scheduled hours are Sunday afternoon through Thursday morning, ranging from 30 to 40 hours a week with the possibility of occasional weekend and evening work.
· Paid holidays off (Memorial Day, Independence Day & Labor Day).
