The Fairgrounds Spring/Summer Aide performs semi-skilled work in general maintenance, landscaping and irrigation, custodial and operation of buildings, grounds, open spaces and arenas of the County Fairgrounds in preparation of the County Fair.The County Fairgrounds and its several buildings are maintained by a full-time staff of maintenance and grounds workers, supplemented by seasonal workers during peak times. Positions of this class are qualified at a basic skill level in the area of grounds maintenance and light building maintenance.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.Grounds Maintenance: Although limited due to an existing lawn care contract, duties of this position can involve such tasks as: mowing, raking, sweeping, irrigating, fertilizing and trimming lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs. This work requires the use of power equipment including power mowers, trimmers, trucks, backhoes and tractors. Tasks also include routine maintenance and assisting in repair of irrigation systems.General Maintenance, Building Maintenance and Event Preparation: Incumbents perform preventive and general maintenance of vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment as well as assisting in setting up platforms, tents, displays, seating and other arrangements for events. Assigned work also includes trash collection, cleaning restrooms, working arenas, moving stock panels, setting up PA systems, mopping floors and other activities as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work is performed outdoors and in a variety of buildings. The work involves substantial physical effort on a regular basis. Work will include evening and weekend hours with a flexible schedule.
