SHIFT:
The shift for this position is Tuesday - Saturday (7:30AM - 4:00PM)
Perform operations support tasks and equipment operation at the Ephrata Landfill and transfer sites to contribute to the effective and efficient functioning of the County's solid waste disposal program.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Incumbents of this class perform landfill operating work such as grounds maintenance, operating scale computer software, operating heavy equipment, and cleanup work at drop box sites.
The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.
1. Grounds Maintenance: These tasks include: collecting windblown trash, fence maintenance, landscaping, painting of drop boxes and signs and performing minor repairs and maintenance of equipment.
2. Solid Waste Operations: Tasks include: inspection, weighing of loads of solid waste; calculating and collecting or recording of fees; and directing the unloading of solid waste and recyclables; operating heavy equipment to compact and cover waste while landscaping the area in that process; and performing maintenance tasks such as greasing, changing oil and filters, and changing tires. At transfer sites, incumbents maintain the condition and neatness of the sites. During winter months they may plow snow at various sites to provide public access.

Required:
- General grounds and facilities maintenance
- Operation of tracked backhoe/loader, landfill compactor, dump truck and combination of trucks and trailers
- Operating scale computer software, receiving money, making cash or other records of transactions
- Valid Driver’s License with proof of automobile insurance.
- Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record.
- Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record

The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, write, hear, speak, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, go up and down a ladder and/or step stool to retrieve/file away files, and lift up and/or move up to 50 lbs. of unequal weight. The position required the employee to stand and/or site for 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Work is performed at landfill and drop box sites in a variety of weather and in conditions in which disagreeable odors are present. The work involves direct exposure to heavy equipment where special care in observing safe operating practices is required.
