What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Programs Team Member position at Grant's Farm?
Position Summary
Grant's Farm is looking for Animal Care Staff that will primarily be responsible for the care and maintenance of small companion and exotic animals as well as interacting with guests. The successful person in this role will also follow protocols for routine feeding, medical care, documentation, performing shows, conducting tours, interacting, and educating guests about companion and exotic animals while working successfully with the animal team.
Essential Job Duties
- Record keeping of information pertinent to small animals' medical and behavior issues.
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of the animal enclosures, barns, and stage.
- Observing animals for illness, injury, or changes in behavior.
- Assisting with the daily shows and sidewalk guest interactions.
- Educating guests about small animals for events and tours.
- Following guidelines on the safe handling of small animals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated and able to multitask.
- Strong sense of personal integrity.
- Attention to detail.
- Team spirit and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Desire to learn.
- Understanding of basic animal training.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Strong memorization skills.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be able to lift or carry 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to walk distances over uneven terrain.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, inclement weather, cold, etc.
