What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Livestock Associate position at Grant's Farm?
Grant’s Farm is looking for a Lead Livestock Associate that will primarily be responsible for the care and maintenance of the livestock collection such as goats, cows, chickens, dogs and cats. A successful person in this role will follow protocols for routine feeding, medical care, documenting animal care, interacting and educating guests about livestock at Grant’s Farm, maintaining and operating farm equipment, and working with the larger animal care team as needed.
Essential Job Duties
- Required to oversee teams that provide care for the animals.
- Ensure that team members perform all tasks and complete projects.
- Create and adjust animal diets when appropriate.
- Coordinating the feeding of 250 baby goats 3 times per day and adjusting their diets as needed.
- Schedule and maintenance animal cleaning routines daily project schedules.
- Understand team members’ daily scheduling process and be able to make adjustments as needed.
- Record keeping of information pertinent to herd feedings, medical issues, and general maintenance.
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of the animal enclosures, barns, and pastures.
- Observing animals for illness, injury, or changes in behavior.
- Learning proper maintenance of equipment, fencing, and tools to ensure the safest facilities for the animals.
- Operating farm equipment and tools safely and in accordance with proper protocols.
- Assisting Livestock animals and team with birthing, infant care, and tagging/identifying.
- Daily milking of the dairy goats and proper care of lactating animals.
- Cleaning and maintenance of milking equipment and dairy stalls/stands.
- Following guidelines on the safe handling of goats, quarantine procedures, restraint techniques, and birthing procedures.
- Administering routine vaccinations and medications as prescribed by the program veterinarian.
- Educating guests about livestock animals for events
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated and able to multitask.
- Basic computer skills – MS office, data entry
- Strong sense of personal integrity.
- Attention to detail.
- Team spirit and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Desire to learn
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be able to lift or carry 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to walk distances over uneven terrain.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, inclement weather, cold, etc
