The Grants Pass Family YMCA is looking for Teachers to join our Childcare Team!
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Childcare Teachers must successfully manage classrooms at the Y's Childcare Facility, the YMCA Youth Enrichment Center. Teachers are responsible for basic classroom management, including the supervision of children and Teacher Assistants.
STATE OF OREGON LICENSING CERTIFIED CHILDCARE QUALIFICATIONS FOR A HEAD TEACHER:
- OPTION 1 - Complete 20 credits (semester system) or 30 credits (quarter system) of training at a college or university in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, Recreation, or Physical Education.
- OPTION 2 - A one-year state or nationally recognized credential related to preschool-age or school-age related care.
- OPTION 3 - At least one-year of qualifying teaching experience, with at least one year as a teacher, in a Certified Childcare Center or comparable group, in the care of preschool-age or school-age children.
- OPTION 4 - Completion of 10 credits (semester system) or 15 credits (quarter system) of training at a college or university in the programs listed in OPTION 1 AND at least six months of qualifying teaching experience in a Certified Childcare Center or comparable group car program in the care of preschool-age or school-age children.
- OPTION 5 - Documentation of attaining at least step 8 in the Oregon Registry.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Be enrolled in the criminal registry (upon employment)
- Complete the Bloodborne Pathogens and the State's Child Abuse Protection Training (upon employment)
- Complete CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications (upon employment)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- 1. Program Implementation and Support: Assist the Childcare Director in planning and implementing high-quality program curriculum and lesson plans that align with the daily schedule. This includes facilitating a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, active games, and snack time. Actively support and participate in YMCA functions and events as communicated by the Childcare Director Attend all mandatory staff meetings and actively contribute to discussions regarding program planning, implementation, and improvement. Organize resources and deliverables to best meet intended goals and outcomes.
2. Child Supervision and Safety: Actively assist in the supervision of children at all times, ensuring that children are never left unattended and are always within sight and earshot. Maintain a physically and mentally safe environment for all children. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment at the program site, including general housekeeping duties. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
3. Relationship Building and Communication: Establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with parents, children, school personnel, and other YMCA staff members. Serve as a positive role model for children, demonstrating appropriate behavior, values, and attitudes. Effectively communicate with children, parents, and staff.
4. Record Keeping and Administration: Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily attendance, newsletter information, lesson plans, and first aid supplies. Ensure all required paperwork is completed and submitted by established deadlines. Assist in maintaining the required number of children to adequately maintain the program budget. Follow and enforce all Association and departmental policies and procedures, including the established substitute policy.
5. Professionalism and Conduct: Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassment. Adhere to all policies and procedures related to maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth. Attend all required abuse risk management training. Observe and ensure that all program policies and procedures are upheld, including adherence to all relevant state and local regulations.
6. Professional Development and Flexibility: Actively seek out and participate in training and learning opportunities and certifications relevant to the position. Maintain all current certifications required for the role. Attend YMCA programs on snow days, school holidays, vacation days, and other days off as needed by the YMCA to support program operations.
