Overview
The Member Services Specialist supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The member services Specialist is responsible for creating a friendly, helpful, and welcoming atmosphere for all members, guests, and staff at the Y. This role serves as the primary point of contact for members and visitors, providing accurate information, processing transactions, and assisting with program and membership services and maintaining efficient member services operations.
Responsibilities
- Member Engagement & Experience: Develop intentional relationships with members to enhance their connection to the Y. Serve as a primary point of contact, providing accurate information about Y programs, membership, financial assistance, policies, and procedures. Address member concerns, resolve conflicts, and follow membership retention and cancellation-save procedures. Provide call diversion for financial assistance in accordance with Y policies for membership and program inquiries.
- Member Services Operations: Use membership databases and software to complete program registrations, update member information, and check-in members and guests.Perform financial transactions accurately, maintain a balanced cash till, and complete end-of-shift reports.Assist in reception duties, door security, and member access and exit protocols.
- Administrative & Organizational Support: Process special program registrations, camp registrations, and guest passes while maintaining accurate records.Support the member services Supervisor and Membership Supervisor with administrative tasks, including maintaining registration files and preparing necessary documentation.Assist in telephone support and general inquiries related to Y programs and services.Promote and monitor membership growth by engaging potential and existing members.
- Team Collaboration & Development: Develop positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and leadership teams.Contribute to a positive and supportive team culture within the Y.Assist in training and onboarding new member services personnel as needed.Promote character development and uphold the Y’s values in all interactions.
- Safety & Incident Reporting: Record and report accident and incident details as required.Ensure a safe environment for members and staff by adhering to YMCA policies and procedures.Respond appropriately to emergency situations and follow established safety protocols..
Experience
- Previous experience in cash management or cash handling is preferred.
- One to three months of related experience/training preferred.
- Previous experience in customer service, sales, or member services operations is beneficial.
- Basic knowledge of computers and experience with database management preferred.
- Active listening skills.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 25 per week
